Joe Coogan Auctioneers Intermediate Hurling
League/Championship (May07)
Mooncoin 0-12 Mooncoin squeezed past Glenmore in this intense Intermediate battle at a dreary Kilmacow on Sunday. The wet weather led to slippery underfoot conditions and it took the players some time to adjust. Michael Phelan opened Glenmore’s account but Eoin Hennebry replied for Mooncoin. Paddy Murphy and Diarmuid Mackey traded placed balls before Phelan pushed Glenmore in front. A long puck out from P.J. O’Connor landed deep in Mooncoin territory where a mistake from corner back Noel Delahunty enabled young Eoin Murphy an opportunity which he finished to the net. Diarmuid Mackey and David Alyward traded frees before Eoin Hennebry hit
a beautiful point from near the touchline to keep his side in touch. Alyward
and Mackey traded placed balls before the half time break. (Glenmore 1-5
Mooncoin 0-5) Diarmuid Mackey continues to run the show up front for Mooncoin however Eoin Hennebry contributed to the scoreboard despite lacking on occasion against the experienced Richie Mullally. The Kirwin brothers, Keith and Gerry worked hard but failed to take full advantage of the opportunities that came their way. The good work of the previous week seemed to come undone for Glenmore who failed to record anything near their tally of the Thomastown victory. Their defenders are experienced and competed tenaciously throughout while Davy Alyward has plenty of potential at midfield. However like most sides their problems lie in attack where they don’t seem to have a Diarmuid Mackey in their ranks although Michael Phelan caused problems for Eddie Mackey throughout. Overall a fair result as Mooncoin dominated for long periods of the second half. Scorers Teams Referee: P. Neary (James Stephens) |
