Dunnamaggin 1-19
Mooncoin 0-7

This was a great victory for Dunnamaggin who were worth victors over a Mooncoin side who never really got going and will be bitterly disappointed with their performance. However Dunnamaggin were by far and away the better side and on this performance are worth their place in this grade. This game had no appointed referee and Jim Fitzgerald from Piltown gratefully came to the aid of both sides.

Dunnamaggin were quickest from the blocks with John Hickey, Tommy Maher and Donal Fitzpatrick all shooting early points. Barry Purcell and Liam Walsh kept Mooncoin in touch but Ramie Cahill and Michael O’Neill were troubling the scoreboard at the other end as Dunnamaggin opened up the Mooncoin defence.
Mooncoin’s Johnny Phelan had a good chance for goal but opted to kick for fear of being hooked, with this effort ending up in the side netting. JP O’Neill along with the aforementioned Maher and Denis Lahart added to Mooncoin’s woes, with points of their own, as we headed for half time. Barry Purcell and Brendan Mackey were keeping Mooncoin in touch but they had a mountain to climb trailing 0-11 to 0-4 at half time.

Mooncoin needed a good start and a point from Liam Walsh helped their cause. However points from Cahill and JJ Dunphy ensured Dunnamaggin were comfortably ahead at this point. Michael O’Neill and Tommy Maher compounded Mooncoin’s problems as their defence were now chasing shadows before a long delivery from Michael O’Neill was touched to the net by Denis Lahart. Kevin Law and Shane (Mossy) Walsh added late points but they were only consolation as Dunnamaggin finished strongly thanks to points from Sean Conry, Denis Lahart and Ramie Cahill who was in top form.
Dunnamaggin will be delighted with this victory and this will surely boost confidence within the camp. Mooncoin lacked the cutting edge up front and this was the major difference between the sides at the finish, while being short key players from the Windgap game didn’t help their cause. Nevertheless this result will help keep their feet firmly grounded for sometime.
