This Junior B encounter was played in glorious sunshine in Piltown last weekend with the home side running out convincing winners in the end. However Mooncoin put in a spirited effort before fading close to the end of the contest. The home side were quickest out of the blocks and the placed ball shooting of Paul Kirby enabled them to take an early lead. Mooncoin kept themselves in touch thanks to points from Nicky Hennebry, Kevin Law and Robbie Cody.Kevin White, Liam White and Richard Brophy stretched the Piltown lead however a goal by Sean (Miley) Walsh on the stroke of half time left it all square at the break. The early exchanges of the second period were tough and intense with both teams continuing to trade score for score. Another goal from Miley Walsh following a mistake by goalkeeper Eddie Butler kept Mooncoin in touch, however in the closing stages Paul Kirby and Tommy O’Gorman helped keep Piltown in front and eventually record a comprehensive victory in the end.

The home side had good performances from several players with the half backline of Nigel Brennan, John Malone and Michael Burchill taking control for the last quarter. Tommy O’Gorman and Brendan McCarthy were competitive at midfield while up front Kevin White and Richard Brophy were able deputies to the impressive Paul Kirby who continued his good form from last week.

Mooncoin competed well until the final quarter and had good performances throughout the defence, with Karol Phelan and Shane Walsh particularly strong; while at midfield Michael O’Hanlon competed well during the hour’s play. The attack was at their best early on with Nicky Hennebry, Kevin Law and Miley Walsh all performing well. No doubt their will be a few players to return for next weeks derby clash with Carigeen.
