The home side struggled to contain the visitors in this rather disappointing game played in the Rower last Sunday. Mooncoin were dominant throughout however their inability to put this dominance into scores almost cost them dearly.

The early exchanges were tight with both defences settling best, with the home side getting the first point thanks to Padraig Grace. Mooncoin, playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, managed to get scores from the impressive Keith Kirwin and Thomas O’Hanlon to leave them in front by 0-3 to 0-1 at half time.
The Rower were in a good position having faced the elements during the first period but they never got going in the second half. Mooncoin had early points from the aforementioned Kirwin and Bill Quinn to extend the lead. The away side’s dominance continued and by the end of the contest they could have had several goals but for a combination of poor shooting and slippery underfoot conditions. Kirwin, O’Hanlon and Paddy Kinsella added more scores before the end while a goal from Padraig Grace ensured that it was a tense finish, however Mooncoin held on for a deserving victory.

The dominance of the away team meant that they had good performers throughout the field. Sean Wall was excellent in the full back line while John Phelan and Gerry Kirwin were good in the half back line. Bill Quinn and Dick Howley worked hard in midfield, while Thomas O’Hanlon and Keith Kirwin were the most dangerous in attack. The Rower had solid performances from David Lyng, Padraig Grace, Michael Grace and J.J. Kenny but they were unable to secure the victory.
