While Croker switched on its lights for the first time on Saturday evening last, Mooncoin’s young guns got their opportunity to shine under the lights on their home turf. The home side played much of the better football throughout the hour and ran out worthy winners. However this was not before a lazy opening 5 minutes which allowed James Lennon to walk through the defence and fire to the net. It would be Blacks and Whites only score of the half as the home side attacked at will and got some nice scores from the boot of Cormac Daly, Michael O’Hanlon and Stephen Crowley, who was busy throughout the hour’s action. This earned the home team the lead at half time 0-8 to 1-0.

There was no let up in the second half as P.J. Rowe, Thomas Healy and Mark Fitzgerald added their names to the score sheet. The barrage of scores continued with Richie Doyle striding forward from defence to add to his sides tally with a well taken point. There were some late consolation scores for Blacks and Whites with Gary O’Neill converting a point and Michael Maloney dispatching the ball to the net from the penalty spot. However it only managed to put a gloss on the score line with Mooncoin adding further points from Stephen Crowley and Mark Fitzgerald to seal the issue.

The home side were in control for long periods and had good performances from all their defenders although Michael Grace and Thomas Kearns stood out. The midfield pairing of Thomas Healy and P.J. Rowe showed intelligent use of the ball, while up front Stephen Crowley was creator in chief for Daly and Fitzgerald who are well able to finish. For the losers David O’Dowd, James Lennon and Michael Maloney were best with goalkeeper James Kennedy making some great saves over the hour.
