Things To Do
Fishing:      The River Blackwater, Ireland's second largest river, and world renowned for its excellent wild salmon fishing, is located opposite Agherton Lodge. Salmon fishing season commences February 1st and runs to September 30th. There is no closed season on course fishing. A fishing license is required and can be obtained locally. Bait and rods are also available for hire locally. Lake fishing for rainbow and brown trout is available in the area and can be arranged prior to arrival.

Golf:    There are many fine golf courses in the Duhallow area -

18 hold courses include: Kanturk, Mallow, Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Charleville

9 hole golf courses include: Doneraile and Mourneabbey

Horse Racing and Riding Centres:   The Green Glens Arena and Equestrian Centre in Millstreet includes three indoor arenas, several outdoor arenas and a cross country course and is the host to two International horse show each year. Various sporting and concert events area hosted in the Green Glens throughout the year. Millstreet is approx. 9 km from Agherton Lodge.  Horse Racing is held at the Cork Racecourse in Mallow throughout the year.

Walking, Hiking & Cycling:  The Blackwater Way is a long distance walking route, taking you along bog roads, over high heathery hills and along old boreens.  The Duhallow Way explores the Duhallow region and takes you through the local villages of Banteer, Nad, Lyre, Kilcorney and on to Millstreet and Rathmore. 

Millstreet Country Park:    Millstreet Country Park includes 500 acres of moorlands, managed wetlands, tumbling rivers, lakes, waterfalls and peaceful ornamental grounds. The park is home to 700 Red Deer and can be enjoyed by foot or on the park mobile. The visitor centre has a restaurant, gift shop, theatre and state-of-the-art interactive display system with multilingual presentations.

 

Entertainment:   Many pubs in the area provide live traditional Irish music both during the week and at weekends. The Hazeltree, located in Mallow is one of largest dance venues in the country, and hosts some of the biggest names in country & western music on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night. Information on local pubs and restaurants is available in each room.
