Natural Technology Systems

Major Benefits of Reed Bed Treatment Systems :

Reed bed systems have several advantages over other package treatment systems :

Capital Cost. Installation costs are as low as 30% of the cost of other package systems.

Maintenance Costs. Once established, RBTS's are largely self-maintaining, and do not suffer from breakdown of pumps or the need for regular de-sludging. Most maintenance takes the form of 'gardening'-type work, and can be carried out by the householder.

It is possible to provide high quality treatment for remote sites, especially in small  villages and hotels, campsites etc. which would otherwise be overlooked due to the constraints of local authority funding.

Reed bed systems are perceived as 'eco-friendly' (although composting toilets with reed bed greywater treatment are the greenest option - unfortunately, most visiting mothers-in-law don't like composting toilets !)

They provide a natural habitat for a wide range of species, and fit well into their environs - once established, they don't look like a sewage treatment plant.

They can be added to existing systems, such as septic tanks with faulty leachfields or soakpits, or package systems which are not achieving target quality standards.
