Of 1196 crew 900 went into sea as the ship sunk in 12 minutes following a hit by 2 Torpedoes, over 300 subsequently died from horrible burns, loss of limbs and poisoned by Oil. Within an hour they were attacked by Sharks nearly 300 were eaten by the sharks over the next 4 days as they waited to be rescued
