Senior Football 2004

Senior Championship 2004 Report v Clonakilty

This was an outstanding win against the runners-up in last seasons ptsb c'ship even more so when we found ourselves 1-1 behind after six minutes, but from there on in the character of the team surfaced. Clon were held scorless for the remainder of the half Eoghan Geaney knocked over 0-4, John Kearney got a goal and Robert Brosnan added a point and despite playing against the wind we led 1-5 to 1-1 at the break. Within ten minutes of the re-start it was 1-9 to 1-3, John Kearney, David Busteed and Eoin Mc Carthy getting points.

Clon with their proud tradition fought back and reduced the defecit to one point, but we were not to be denied and two points from Eoghan Geaney, one a beauty from play, saw us march on to round three, and for the third year in a row a West Cork scalp under our belts. It was a great all round team performance, Donal Og put the shackles on Padraig Griffin, Liam Leahy kept a tight rein on Conrad Murphy, while the other defenders never put a foot wrong, Shane, 'Paddy', Consy and Kennefick, who covered every blade of grass on the field were excellent, and behind them well 'Brossy' was as effective as ever. Graham and Paul were solid in midfield, while Niall Harte as usual worked like a trojan as did Kevin Herlihy when introduced.

Well done to all involved and in particular the Selectors, Diarmuid, Niall and Damien who had the lads in perfect 'nick' on the night. Thanks also to physio Phil and our loyal supporters who may have been outnumbered but were in full voice all through.
