06 March 2002 Following on from the success of North West Oval Racing Club's first event at Letfords Park raceway, February 17th Last, the club held their second event on Sunday 3rd of Marc last which was a huge success with drivers and spectators alike. Local drivers had a very good day with Damien Moran, Kevin Regan and enda McHugh coming first, second and third in Class 2 respectively, Neil Kennedy and Michael mcDonald second and third in the Consolation Race. Gurteen featured very well also with Pat O' Grady and Ian Tansey with a win each in Class 3 and Class 4, Owen kelly 2nd in the Juniors with a Fast Lap of 23.8 secs, 81.68 kmph (50.75 mph). The Unofficial lap Record was set by Gordon Percy who, along with Danny Fogarty, gave an excellent demonstartion of Autocroaa. Gordons lap of 17.2 secs for the 540 metre track, 113 kmph ( 70.23 mph), was very quick indeed. the official Lap record was set by John Shanahan from Cork with a fastest lap of 22.5 secs, 86.4 kmph (53.68 mph). The new track in Boyle is already a huge success with drivers coming from Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Dublin and all over the North Westto compete. A special to Clarkes Lounge, Boyle, for providing the trophies for Sunday's event. A special thanks to all who helped on the day.
