Surfing - Strandhill's Atlantic surges provide some of the best surfing in Europe and it is an International Surfing Championship venue.

Coney Island - This island can be reached at low tide along the strand where the way is marked by a line of pillars. Few people live on the island today, but there are several lovely beaches and a pub where you can enjoy a pint of guinness.

Airport - Sligo's airport is situated at Strandhill. Return flights daily to Dublin. The North West Aero Club is based at the airport. Flight instruction is available and trips of the area can also be made.

Glen Road - This road runs parallel to the Glen, a natural fault in the bedrock which is of ecological interest.

Knocknarea - A climb to the top of Knocknarea is a rewarding experience with its views of Slieve League and Donegal to the North. On the summit is Queen Maeve's Cairn. Around the base are a number of tombs of the passage tomb type.

Carrowmore Megalithic Tombs - The largest megalithic cemetery in Ireland and amongst the oldest and most important in Europe. 30 monuments in varying degrees of preservation can be visited.

Hazelwood Forest Park Sculpture Trail - At half Moon Bay on the North Shore of Lough Gill is a beautiful walk incorporating Hazelwood Forest. Along the forest trails here you will find a unique series of outdoor sculptures from Irish and International artists. Hazelwood has a car park and picnic site.

Sligo Abbey - Dominican Friary founded in 1252/3 by Maurice Fitzgerald, the Chief Justice of Ireland. It has the oldest decorated high altar in an Irish monastic church, dating to the 15th century, and the beautifully carved O'Crean tomb dating to 1506 is an example of a medieval grave monument.
