These transcripts were copied from the hardcopy index volumes in the General Register Office, and also from the microfilmed copy of the index volumes in the Gilbert Library.

We are aware that the Marriage Index would be much more useful if the spouse's name were included. Unfortunately, the only way to get the spouse is to order a cert! In former years, both the Indices and the Registers were available to the general public on the open shelves. Unfortunately there was a change of policy a number of years ago and now the Indices may be inspected for a nominal charge (EUR2 for any 5 years, or EUR20 unlimited access all day) but the Registers themselves are not available. It's a great pity, but we have gone as far as we can at present. If policy changes (or if we win the Lotto!) then we can complete the exercise. Until then, it's a lucky dip!
