THE TREBLE

What a year 2001 was for our club!  First winning the Juvenile Roinn 1 Hurling final, then the Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship and finally the Minor Roinn 11 Hurling final, making it three in a row for our little club.  Celebrations and Jubilation was witnessed and celebrated by a united parish.  Blue and White bunting flew at Butlers and at the pitch with pride.

The Juvenile final took place on a day that was described by the media as being ‘Only fit for ducks’, yet it didn’t deter our gallant support.  The lads played well and with a change of jerseys at half time they came out with their heads and spirits held high.  A great display of hurling was given and the day was made extra special when Liam Kinsella captured the AIB Man of the Match award.

The Junior ‘B’ final has gone down in the history books as the best county final ever witnessed in Wexford Park.  It was intense and exciting from the first stroke of the ball.  Two evenly matched teams fought a long and hard battle.  With a nail biting finish and Wexford Park a wash with Blue & White, captain Adrian Meyler stood proud as he received the cup and title that we had so long searched for.  The tears, songs and celebrations that followed are indescribable.  A chorus of ‘We Are The Champions’ from the team finished the day off rightly.

With two titles now under our belts, it was a hopeful certainty that our Minor team would come home champions.  As managers John Meyler, Stephen Kehoe and Pat Furlong paced the sideline, the huge following of supporters could only imagine the pressure that this fine team were under.  The emotion shown as the final whistle blew was immense, and as Captain Victor Ormonde received the cup and well deserved Wexford Creamery Man of the Match award club members and supporters stood with pride.
