Why Catholics celebrate the Feastday of Corpus Christi.
Catholics believe that during at the consecration of Holy Mass that the bread and wine on the altar are changed into the body and blood of Jesus Christ and that at that moment Jesus is truly present in the consecrated host, which we receive in Holy Communion.
In many places around the world the Feast of Corpus Chriti is celebrated by processions through the streets. At one time in Ireland in vllages and towns around the country processions would be held and the sreets would be packed with onlookers and people taking part, but in recent years although processions are still held in many places in Ireland there has been a decline in numbers taking part.
