Our Senior team got the year off to the ideal start with a hard fought win over Garrycastle on St Patrick’s morning.

Both teams showed the rustiness of winter early on, but soon settled into a game of end to end football. Garrycastle took up the initiative going into a three point lead, midway through the half. The Downs however, fought back to go in at the break leading 0 – 7 to 0 – 6.

On the resumption of play, The Downs controlled the game but failed to make their dominance show on the scoreboard. In the final quarter, Garrycastle struck back with three unanswerec points to take a one point lead. The Downs showed great composure to respond with a point to level matters and following a well worked move sealed victory with a late goal.

There was no winner of the IR£1,700 Jackpot in the Lucky Numbers draw on 13^th March 2000. Numbers drawn were 1, 4, 11, 18. IR£50 Prizewinners were Garry Devine, 36 Mount Street and Bobby Begley.
