Coolhouse is the fantastic follow up album to Paul's 2002 debut release; "Cheap Cabaret". Here he gives us an insight into how the album took shape and what each song means to him.
Coolhouse came into being after almost 2 years of immense care and consideration. I wanted to present 12 songs in the best way possible and get the listener excited.
1. Coolhouse
The title track is based around the imagery of a warm hot night after a long
hot day when you can retreat to a “Coolhouse”, enjoy a cold longneck
and wait for your lover to arrive.
2. And
When I Walk
Love going through a rough patch. Listen to both sides explain their feelings.
3. Heuston
Station
Sitting in Heuston Station and wondering if any of the people walking through
were on a one way ticket.
4. My Love
And Me
My favourite song to sing. Celebrates all that is beautiful and simple about
love.
5. In GOD
We Trust
In 1986 there was a divorce referendum in Ireland that was defeated by religious
power. I felt so angry, at the time, and I wrote this song about the hyprocrisy
of the whole event.
6. Watch
Out Love
When love goes wrong it can knock you to the ground. Don’t let that
stop you from loving again.
7. Sometimes
Sometimes I wonder about a lot of things. These are just some of them.
8. If I
Could Sail That Ocean Again
A tale of regrets because of missed opportunities and the desire to do it
all differently if it could be done again
9. Teach
Me To Fly
I want to embrace life and live it.
10. Live
Before You Die
Did you ever take a look at someone you love when they are feeling low and
wish that they would rise above it.
11. Revolution
On Their Minds
Dedicated to all victims of “Bullies” and a warning to the “Bullies”
themselves.
12. See
You Again
Happy days in Baile Na nGall, Dingle coming to an end until the following
year. No need to say “goodbye”.
Paul Hickey - 2005
