Ixion, king of the Lapiths, a fabulous race of Thessaly, was a notorious sexual transgressor. He attampted to rape the goddess Hera, but she deceived him by putting in her bed a cloud in her shape, with which Ixion mated when he was drunk. Zeus punished Ixion for attempting to seduce his wife by condemning him to be tied to a burning wheel which would turn forever in the underworld. The offspring of Ixion and the cloud was Centauros, who later became a sexual transgressor himself by coupling with a mare to produce the first centaur.
