It is a complete "Angling Centre" as it has all the facilities to cater for the fresh-water angler both game (trout & salmon) and pike. It is 100 meters from the lough and has it's own private shoreline and boat pier. Fishing rods etc. can be hired out at the lodge. Local expert gillies are available. Fly-tying facilities and materials are available at the lodge to guests. A modern building, set in woodlands, with an avenue of 400 meters, the Lodge gives one that "getting away from it all" feeling. The bedrooms are all en-suite (T.V and phone) and as with the spacious lounge and dining area command a wonderful view of the lough and many of it's islands. Game Angling (Trout & Salmon ) Lough Corrib is the largest and most famous "Wild Brown Trout" fishery in Europe and offers excellent game angling from mid February to 1st October. The season starts with trolling baits and natural minnow (called the "brickeen"). Then the duckfly in March - April. Olives and Mayfly in May - mid June and Sedges and Grasshopper from then to the end of the season. Casting the wet fly (Duckfly, olives and sedges) take Trout from 1 lb to 2.5 lb on average. Dapping the natural Mayfly and Grasshopper tend to yield larger fish. Salmon angling on the lough is at it's best from mid June to mid July. Coarse Angling (Roach, Bream, Rudd, Pike) Moycullen has some fine coarse fishing lakes that hold plenty of Roach, Bream, Rudd, Perch and Pike. Ballyquirke and Ross lakes are famous for their stocks of fish. Bait is available locally and the lakes are all within a radius of 4 miles from the Lodge. For the visitor wishing to take up the sport of angling, the proprietor - a keen, dedicated and experienced angler, will be available to give lessons and practical demonstrations in the various methods of Trout/Salmon Angling. designed and hosted by Mid West Network Solutions |
