MISSION AWARENESS
In our school we support and contribute to many organisations throughout the school year. These organisations help people of the poorer countries of the world.
Children Helping Children
For many years we have been collecting in our school for the 'Holy Childhood' now known as 'Children Helping Children'.There is a mission box in every classroom. Teachers encourage pupils to put a little of their pocket into the box on a weekly basis. The Infant classes are usually the most generous. Our money helps to buy food for poor children in third world countries. This Lent we made a special effort and collected
Bóthar
Each Lent the pupils in our school take part in fund raising for a third world project. Our favourite one is 'Buy a goat for Africa'. To date we have sent four gentle Irish dairy goats to Tanzania and a clutch of chickens. We named the goats Molly, Daisy, Sally and Betty. The latter is called after one of our teachers! These goats have been given to poor families, who have been trained in animal husbandry. These families in turn will give the first -born female kid to another family . In this way our gift continues to work to improve the lives of other families.
Bóthar was established in 1991 by a group of farmers , church leaders and businessmen. It is the International Aid Agency that provides poverty stricken families with the means to solve their problems permanently. It does this by using Livestock in Development Aid. Their slogan is 'Helping People Help Themselves.
