All classes from first to sixth class learn how to play the tin whistle. The children get much enjoyment from this and classes regularly play the tin whistle during school assemblies and school concerts.

A visit from a musician.

John the Musician

A visitor came to the school his name was John Crowe. He is a musician and he showed us the Bass guitar the Electric guitar the Spanish guitar and the Mandolin. He also showed us how computers have taken over the music industry.

For instance John showed us a mini computer that makes the sounds of fifteen different drums. He showed us how to mix the different instruments with a floppy disk then you can play it accompanied with your own voice. He sang some songs for us: Johnny Boy, Country Roads and the Fields of Athenry. Then he played music from cartoons, films and the charts. There were also options for students to get involved at various stages of the recital.

In the evening the sixth class went to the music workshop. At the workshop he installed software on the computers, he gave us a lesson on how to use it. The software turns your computer into a recording studio and also turns your keyboard pad into a piano. We could play tunes, record ourselves and have access to 128 instruments including violins, organs, flutes, drums etc…

We recorded our own voices and got an insight into making our own CD’s.  We know how radio jingles are made. We could even create our backing music for our own concert! There’s even a facility to learn songs in a karaoke style, where the words are highlighted on the screen in time with the music.

We all enjoyed his visit very much and hope he will come back soon

Other musical activities.

We also have a school choir and these girls can be heard singing sweetly during our concerts, school masses, assemblies and receiving of the sacraments.

During the school year the children have the opportunity of practicing their musical skills on other musical instruments. Take a look at these girls try their hand at the african drums!
