Junior Infants - Room 1, 2, 4

Hello everyone from all the children in Junior Infants.

We have been very busy since Hallowe’en. We have homework now and we enjoy sharing our books with our families.

We went to see “Town Mouse, Country Mouse” at Barnstorm Theatre. We really enjoyed the show. We travelled by bus and this was great fun.

On Wednesday, 14th December we had our Nativity Play in the school hall. Everyone looked beautiful and we all sang really well. Thank you to the audience for coming to see us. We hope you enjoyed the show. We would like to say a big Thank You to the girls in sixth class who helped us.

Now we are looking forward to Christmas. At school we are learning songs and rhymes and drawing lovely pictures about Santa. We hope he remembers to visit everyone.

Second Class - Room 13, 18

Greetings from all of us in second class. We are looking forward to Christmas and hoping Santa will be good to us. We continue to participate in the Parish Preparation Programme for our First Holy Communion and we are enjoying the monthly Masses in St Mary’s Cathedral.

We are busy learning our recorder tunes, especially Jingle Bells and Ms Kenny is pleased with our progress. The girls in Room 13 were delighted to have Ms King with them for the past few weeks. They learned a lot from her and participated fully in the activities she prepared for them. We wish her well as she completes her college studies.

The children in Room 18 planted Spring bulbs and await new life early in the year.

We are looking forward to 2006 when we will receive the Sacrament of Forgiveness and our First Holy Communion.

Third Class - Room 12

We’ve all taken the plunge this term in James Stephen’s swimming pool. Everyone has improved so much.

Our class Mass was a really personal and enjoyable experience. The theme of the Mass was ‘Thank You’ - may we all continue this throughout Christmas.

We’ve all enjoyed following the adventures of Flora and getting to know her in our first novel “The School Mouse” by Dick King Smith.

In Art we enjoyed our pottery class and everyone was proud bringing home their creation.

We finally said goodbye to the old desks and welcome the arrival of our new tables and chairs.

Fourth Class - Room 11

Dia dhaoibh go leir o rang a ceathair. We are busy preparing for Christmas in Room 11. We made snowmen cards and 3 dimensional Christmas trees in art class. We also learned festive tunes on the tin whistle.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Fr Maher for our lovely class Mass which we celebrated a few weeks ago. Our theme was friendship and hopefully this theme will be kept alive in our classroom for the rest of the year.

Our room is hardly recognisable anymore now that we have our new furniture. It took a little getting used to but now we are settled and happy. Thank you Sr Maura.

We finished our novel “Lady Daisy” and enjoyed finding out what happened to the main characters.

Well done to all the swimmers who completed the course in James Stephen’s Swimming pool.

Fifth Class - Room 14

Merry Christmas everyone from fifth class. Many special days have come and gone since mid-term;  We had Mass in Room 14 with Father Maher; several girls entered the Thomas Moore Singing Competition and thank you to Mrs Fitzpatrick for helping us. Our computers have been busy and we are full of digital smiles inside our Christmas cards. We are learning cords on the chime bars and will shortly begin basketball. Most of us have made a special effort for Advent to visit Jesus as his birthday approaches. Aysha joined our class this week, she is very welcome.

Sixth Class - Room 10

We have been so busy in Room 10 that we hardly noticed the weeks slip past. So much has taken place.

Apart from all our usual subjects we have finished our Basketball Course with Joe Byrne. We enjoyed learning the skills and we found the exercise beneficial too. It’s good to have Joe back again.

A most enjoyable and active session was also given by Briain Ryan when he encouraged us to participate in Gaelic Football. We hope to meet Briain again for another session or two in the new year. No doubt he will have plenty of skills and activities planned.

Our potential as singers is certainly being developed to the full by Ms C Kenny. Beautiful streams of music and singing can be heard as she accompanies us on the keyboard. This is another talent we enjoy using.

On November 6th, sixth class had a visit from two teachers from the city’s Vocational School. They talked to us about life in second level education and invited us to an Open Day on Tuesday, 13th December. We visited the Vocational School and we were greeted with a most warm welcome. Not only did we view the various rooms but we were treated to a variety of savouries for lunch. We also got “goodies” on our departure.  We extend our thanks to all who made this visit possible in the Vocational School and also to Sr Maura who gave us permission to go and who kindly asked Claire to accompany us.

The Parent / Teacher Meetings were held in recent weeks and thanks to all parents who made great efforts to attend. The meetings was very successful and much appreciated.

Finally, the highlight of our last few days in school this term must be the invitation to attend the Junior Infant Nativity Play in the school hall on Wednesday, 14th December. All the Junior Infants sang and acted so beautifully. We were very proud to be part of the audience this day as we missed out the previous day due to our school visit. Thanks to Mrs Lacey, Mrs McNamara and Mrs Fitzpatrick for inviting us. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

We would like to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas and we hope Santa comes to everyone.

Happy Christmas from Room 10

A Note From Sr. Maura

20th December 2005

Dear Parents

Very best wishes for a peaceful Christmas and an enjoyable break from school runs, lunches and homework.

I hope your Christmas will be filled with many blessings. We remember especially those of you who have suffered illness or bereavement over the last number of months. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our newsletter, as you can see, is packed with the activities of the last two months. Great credit is due to all our students who willing participate in all our school activities.

Over the last number of weeks our students are enjoying the new tables and chairs which replace our “old fashioned” desks. All our classrooms now boast of this new up to date furniture which is more pupil friendly, bright and cheerful.

The Computers in the classrooms have now been networked. Broadband has been installed, the internet will shortly be available within each classroom. Our long-term plan is to set up a computer room, where the classes can work on a rota basis. We hope this will be in operation before the end of the school year.

On 19th January we will have an Inservice Day, so the school will be closed on that day. The following day Friday, 20th January—we will have a staff meeting. Your child will be free on that day at 12.30p.m.

Christmas holidays begin at 12.00noon on Thursday. School re-opens on Monday, 9th January 2006.

On behalf of the Staff and Board of Management I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and many blessings throughout 2006.

Yours Sincerely

Sr. Maura Murphy
Principal
