- Introduction: Founded In 1902 and situated in the heart
of Glasthule village, Presentation College has built up a considerable
reputation over the years as a secondary school. The main thrust
of the school is academic. The Principal, Mr. Jim Murray oversees
the academic wellbeing of the college's c. 200 students. This
number is large enough to provide a comprehensive range of subjects
while being sufficiently compact to develop a sense of community
and to provide an excellent range of pastoral systems. Great stress
is given to the development of good habits of punctuality, attendance,
behaviour and application. This ensures that all students achieve
their potential.
- Class size: The average class size is 20 and this ensures
that your son's progress and development receives close attention
from an expert and committed staff who respond to the needs of
contemporary society and a changing educational environment.
- Discipline: High standards of mutual respect, courtesy
and good behaviour are insisted upon. Only in such an atmosphere
may all pupils have the opportunity to succeed and bullying and
anti-social behaviour be avoided. This is a core value and the
school will not flinch from ensuring that it Is met. Such standards
are regarded as crucial to the development of the whole person
and are basic to the Presentation College ethos.
- Pastoral care: Close contact between the school and home,
based on an effective Pastoral Care system Involving Assistant
Principals and Year Heads, is a feature of the college. This enables
each student to gain maximum benefit from his time in Presentation
College. Each individual pupli in Presentation College is carefully
monitored to make certain he is working well to the best of his
ability and growing in social maturity and respect.
- School Journal: All pupils are required to have their
school journal with them every day In school. It is school policy
that all Comments on homework both positive and negative will
be entered in the school journal. Journals are regularly Inspected
by Year Heads and by the Principal. The school journal has been
designed to give parents a snapshot at any given times of how
your son is doing. The school journal is signed weekly. Presentation
College will endeavour to keep you as well informed on your child's
progress and well being in school as possible. All routine notes
from home (excuses, appointments etc.) are entered in the journal.
