- Continuous Assessment: Monthly assessments take place
for 3rd 5th and 6 th year Students. Grades are entered as appropriate
in a special page of the journal. Monthly assessments are signed
by parents. The record of each month's progress Is visible at
a glance throughout the year and home/school co-operation on each
student's development is assured. House exam results are also
sent.
- Attendance: The school will regularly contact parents/Guardians
by phone regarding absence from school, and in the case of three
consecutive days' absence notice will be sent home in writing.
Poor attendance undermines confident progress.
- Study Skills/Academic Targeting: A programme of study
skills/planning is organised for students. Leaving Certificate
students co-operate with tutors in setting targets for themselves
and are encouraged to take active responsibility for their own
learning goals.
- Uniform: All students are required to be neat in their
appearance and school uniform is obligatory. The school uniform
is a mark of identity with Presentation College and encourages
student seff respect
- Parents Association: Parents are encouraged to become
Involved in the Parents Association, which works closely with
the school authorities for the betterment of the students.
- Curriculum: A Comprehensive programme of subjects is
offered at both Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate level.
- Transition year: Pupils have the option of participating
in the Transition Year Programme before undertaking Leaving Certificate.
- Prefects: The senior school prefects help new pupils
to settle into the school and make themselves available at set
times to meet the new pupils and to organise activities for those
interested.
- School activities/sports: Students are encouraged to
become involved in extra-curricular activity where possible. In
particular, rugby training is for complete newcomers and is approached
with a sense of perspective and with enjoyment in mind. It helps
pupils to bond together and with the school. Likewise, activities
such as debating are an excellent aid to maturity and self-confidence,
and are an important part of the tradition of the school. Pupils
with an Interest in writing, whether prose, poetry or reportage,
may also be published in the school magazines or newsletters.
- Library: There is a well stocked school library with
a librarian to help pupils and to make books available. All pupils
are automatically members of the school lending library.
- Computers: The college has a well-equipped computer
room with twenty-four PCs as well as Internet access.
