The graveyard is in the grounds of the 1797 Church of Ireland at Rathmolyon and almost certainly precedes the previous protestant church on the site; roman catholic burials here have been continuous from earliest times and constitute about two thirds of the current headstones. A comparison of the Church of Ireland Burial Register since 1733 against the headstones shows that most protestant burials do not have existing headstones.
I have retained the style of early engravers of sometimes reaching the edge of the stone in the middle of a word and then abbreviating it or continuing it into the next line. An unclear letter or number is indicated by a question mark and missing words by dashes.
Symbols used by me depicting headings on gravestones are
+ for crosses
IHS a monogram for the Holy Name Jesus, latinised from Greek - on catholic gravestones only.

Inscriptions in church and graveyard were transcribed by Bruce Chandler during 2000 and 2001. Publication by him on the internet is by kind permission of the vestry of Rathmolyon Church of Ireland
