ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN COURSE

This is a two-year post Leaving Certificate Course

NEW OPPORTUNITIES IN ELECTRONICS The electronics industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Ireland. The industry needs electrical, electronic, mechanical, production, manufacturing, engineering, plastics and instrumentation technicians. A technician in the electronics industry can be engaged in the following activities:

· working on new designs
· detecting errors and correcting microchips
· installing and servicing equipment

COURSE STRUCTURE AND CERTIFICATION This course takes place over two years. At the end of the first year, participants are entered for the FETAC Level 2 Award in Electronic Technology (CELTX). At the end of second year students will be entered for the new FETAC Level 3 Electronic Technician's Award.

COURSE CONTENT

Year 1
Digital and Analogue Electronics, Microprocessors, CAD, Computer Studies, Engineering Workshop Processes, Business Administration, Communications. The subjects cover both theoretical and practical electronics

Year 2
Analogue and Digital Electronics, Information Technology Skills, Computer Applications, Mathematical Methods, Physics, Mechanics, Computer Programming, Production Technology, Computer Networks, Communications.

WORK EXPERIENCE The course will include a work experience placement in a relevant employment.

ENTRY STANDARD
Applicants must have completed a Leaving Cert./Applied Leaving Cert. course or equivalent to qualify for entry to Year 1. Entry to Year 2 will be on the basis of successful completion of Year 1. Students who have already obtained the FETAC CELTX qualification with appropriate subjects will also be eligible for direct entry to Year 2 of the course.

ENROLMENTS Interviews are held from March to May by appointment and in early September.
