METHOD OF APPLICATION
Applications, on official application form, should be made before September 1st to:
The Principal, Ringsend Technical Institute,
Cambridge Road, Dublin 4.
All Applicants will be interviewed.

SELECTION PROCEDURES
Applicants will be selected on the basis of the set down entry requirements for a particular course and an interview. The interview will assess a candidate's interest in the course as well as his/her suitability and career objective.

FEES

DEPOSIT: Once a student is accepted for a course a deposit of 20 must be paid to secure the place. This deposit is not refundable if the student does not avail of the course. Where a student does avail of the course the deposit is refunded or held as a down payment for any charges payable.

GRANTS SCHEME:
Courses qualify under the Grant Scheme for PLC students.

COURSE CERTIFICATION
Depending on courses pursued, students who successfully complete their course are eligible for certificates awarded by FETAC, CDVEC and appropriate professional bodies.

FURTHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING AWARD COUNCIL(FETAC)
All first year Post Leaving Certificate Courses in Ringsend Technical Institute off FETAC Level 2 Awards. These awards are nationally recognised qualifications, which are good routes to employment, higher education and further training. PLC students who successfully complete a relevant FETAC Award are eligible to apply for reserved places on certain DIT and Institute of Technology courses. Further information on this scheme can be obtained from the college.

WORK EXPERIENCE
All students engage in work experience in their relevant area and this constitutes an integral part of each course.

ASSESSMENT
Continuous assessment takes place on all PLC courses. Work produced throughout the year i.e. projects, tests, will be graded and will count towards final assessment.

EXTERNAL EXAMINERS
Each course has an external examiner who validates the assessments and the grades awarded. The examiner is typically from a third level college, professional body or appropriate area of business / employment. He/she monitors the course standards and sends a report to the FETAC/College.


COLLEGE FACILITIES
Include classrooms, lecture theatre, computer rooms, electronics lab., science labs, technology rooms, gymnasium, greenhouse, photography dark room, canteen.

ACCOMMODATION
The college offers advice and help to students from outside Dublin seeking accommodation locally.

PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELLING
Each course has its own co-ordinator whose role includes the pastoral well being of his/her students. Close attention is paid to each student's progress and any problem arising is addressed with a view to supporting his/her progress. This approach has been crucial to the success of our courses. The college has a guidance counsellor who, apart from providing personal counselling, gives advice and information on careers and future educational opportunities. All parents of Repeat Leaving Certificate students are invited to attend a parent teacher meeting during the academic year and parents are welcome to visit or contact the college at any time during the year to discuss the student's progress.

 

ENROLMENTS

Post Leaving Certificate Application to the PLC courses may be made from February onwards. Interviews with course tutors are held from March to May by appointment and in early September.

Repeat Leaving Certificate  As above and from mid August by appointment.

PLC Grants PLC grants are available to eligible students.

Registration of full-time students

The following must be presented to the school's General Office at registration

Students will not be allowed to attend class unless these registration procedures have been observed. Receipts issued by the college should be retained by the student.
