Rinnaknock
is at the foot of Slieve Felim, with its streams, lakes and woodland
paths. A network of quiet country roads and lanes will take you into
the heart of beautiful, rural countryside.
Slieve
Felim Way - 29kms (18 miles) of valleys and hills stretching
from Murroe northwards to the Silvermines Village in County Tipperary.
The route starts near Rinnaknock B&B and skirts the western shoulders
of both Slieve Felim and Keeper Hill, and along forest tracks through
the Silvermines Mountains. Routes are clearly signposted at all junctions
with standard way-markers. Full details, including special maps, are
available from the various tourist offices.
The Shannon Region is home to the finest golf
the country has to offer. We are also close to pitch
& putt, angling, horse riding and cycling routes.
Or if you're not feeling energetic, you can drink in the atmosphere
of the local pubs, many of which feature traditional irish music.
The 19th century castle of Glenstal dominates
Murroe. Now a Benedictine Abbey it is known both for the daily liturgical
services and its secondary school for boys. The monks also make hard-wrought
artistic metalwork.
The
Cliffs of Moher - The Cliffs of Moher are on the coast of
west Clare. They rise in places to over 215 metres and stretch over
8km, offering views of the Clare coastline, the Aran Islands and mountains
as far as Kerry and Connemara.
Aillwee
Cave (Burren) - With its stalactites, stalagmites, relics
of bears, and a waterfall, the Aillwee Cave has become one of Irelands
leading attractions and is an essential part of any tour to the Burren.
Rock
of Cashel (45 mins from Murroe) - The Rock of Cashel is one
of the most spectacular archeological sites in Ireland. Mighty stone
walls encircle a complete round tower, a roofless abbey, a 12th century
Romanesque chapel, and numerous other buildings and high crosses.
Clare Glens -The Clare Glens,10 min from Murroe, forms the
boundary between Co. Tipperary and Co Limerick. The Glens through which
the Clare River flows is a gorge, which provides excellent walks and
scenic views from all sides.
Lough
Derg
-Lough Derg, 15 mins from Murroe, is the largest lake on the Shannon
and offers activities such as watersports and fishing. Bunratty Castle
- Bunratty Castle plays host to the world-famous Medieval banquets,
now in their 37th year.
Limerick
is a historical city. Sites worth visiting include King John's,
the Hunt museum, St John's Cathedral, Thomond bridge and the Treaty
Stone. The University of Limerick has over 8,000 students and is home
to the best sporting and cultural facilities in the city. Shopping
of all sorts is catered for and night life ranges from pubs and clubs
in the city centre to the concert hall at Limerick University. Local
pubs offer traditional and Irish music many nights during the week where
you can enjoy a Guinness and sample the craic.
