Description of a stress release session

using Kinesiology techniques.

Fully clothed, you will be asked to either sit on a chair or lie down on a therapist's plinth and the then the therapist will explain that you do not need to reveal what it is that is stressing you. You may, if you wish, as the session is totally confidential.

Next the therapist will explain how stress affect the blood supply to your thinking brain and how reduced blood flow into the conscious brain affect our lives.

Starting with very minor issues the therapist will lead you to recall the issue and at the same time stimulate extra blood flow into your conscious brain so that you will be able to apply all of your faculties to the issue.

Now it will be possible for you to see the issue rationally and its importance in your life will be put into proportion by your own logic and reasoning. The fears and stresses caused by the issue will melt away and when ever the issue arises from then on your brain and body will respond differently to it.

STRESS

In our modern world where we live demanding, hectic and rushed lives; we are susceptible to a gradual but continual build-up of tension and worries.

Everybody has to cope with stress at some time but it is our response to that stress, how we manage it, which helps us cope with life’s pressures so that our health is less affected.

Survival is stressful. The constant barrage of stressors is merciless: traffic, noise, television, work pressure, family concerns, health worries, disease, financial problems, pollution… long term symptoms of constant exposure to stress are fatigue, anxiety and depression.

Stress affects people in different ways and to varying degrees.

Individuals may exhibit problems ranging from cardiovascular problems like high blood pressure, gastrointestinal upset such as ulcers or indigestion, palpitations, headaches, sweating, cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome, insomnia, eczema, repeated sore throats…Stress in women can upset the normal functioning of the hormonal cycle. The resulting imbalance may cause PMS, fluid retention, depression, irritability, tender breasts and headaches.

Abnormal tension leads to a palpable tightening of the spinal muscles (especially in the neck); thus nerves are affected and this leads to pain. Simultaneously a constriction in circulation deprives the vital organs and body tissues of the required oxygen and nutrients. This in turn causes a slowing down in the elimination of impurities and toxins.

Of all the glands most affected by the body’s response to stress, the ADRENAL GLAND is to the fore.

The immediate response of the body to what it perceives to be a threatening situation, is the production (and over-production) of adrenaline. We cannot always respond to a threat with physical activity, which in itself would dissipate the adrenaline, but have to control or submerge our response.

This means that the hormone has nowhere to go. So a build up of hormones including corti-costeroids are pumped into the bloodstream.

The body is galvanised into action. The blood supply to the brain increases, heart-rate speeds up, fuel from stored blood sugar is released to provide energy, blood pressure rises, blood vessels constrict as blood is drained from the skin so as to be available for use in the muscles.

In other words, the body is geared up for a short burst of intense physical activity. Such activity is almost always inappropriate.

If stressful situations are continuous and the stress responses are continuously on "red-alert", then the suppression of any physical release causes an unnatural hormonal build-up, causing the body to weaken and become more susceptible to a variety of diseases. Long-term stress lowers our resistance to disease and affects our ability to fight infection. Long-term adrenal stimulation with no outlet, will risk depleting essential vitamins and minerals such as Vitamins B and C. Constant stress can actually alter the balance of hormones in the body.
