MARINO BOOK WEEK - Ciara
O'Dwyer.
On Tuesday
the 12th June 2001 the top two classes went to Marino
school in Bray. We were invited to their Book week. They
had all read a book and told us about it. Seomra Cuchulainn,
and Seomra Setanta had also read books for the occasion.
We were made very welcome. Some of the pupils in Bray
had read very violent stories especially Lucy. Her story
was about murder. She even wrote her own story as well.
Some of the pupils from Sandymount had read biographies
abut such people as Dawn French David Beckham and Geri
Haliwell. Hearing about all the different books that Marino
read has inspired the Sandymount students to get down
to their local Libraries and book shops and start reading
more books. We had lunch which was chips sandwiches and
drinks. After that we went out to their school yard to
play football and to hang out.

medals. Lalan made his first communion in May. Hanan was
at a big wedding over in England . By all accounts she
had a wonderful time . She especially liked the journey
on the plane. Danny made everyone jealous when he told
the class that he went jetsking. Connor is not long back
from Puffin house where he went with his family. The whole
class went to the Zoo. They saw a baby Sea lion, a huge
elephant and a pack of monkeys. Louise was in Crumlin
hospital for a few days. She said that everyone there
were very kind. Finally they painted a picture of Tir
na nOg which is displayed in their classroom
GRADUATION

Emma , Ciara and Patrick took pride of place at the graduation

Fr. Power said

and staff all attended and everyone agreed that it was
a lovely ceremony. Kathleen Maczka. The Chairperson of
the school board said how delighted she was to be able
to attend her first Graduation mass in the school and
it brought her back to her own graduation a few years
ago. Mr Jordan said that it was both a happy and a sad
day where the graduates were moving on to a new stage
in their lives. He gave a little pen picture of all the
pupils, much to the amusement of all. He then presented
the pupils with their certificates and a beautiful Dublin
crystal engraved bowl.
SPORTS
DAY
This years
sports day took place on Thursday 21st June, the longest
day. Everyone made their way to Morton Stadium in Santry.
The weather was dull but it stayed dry. Brenda Greene
was there as usual and as usual did a fantastic job organising
the day. There were a wide variety of sports both track
and field. The highlight of the meeting was the wheelchair
races. One actually ended in a three way dead heat.

SUNDAY
CLUB
Believe it
or not the Sunday club celebrates it fifth year this.
It hard to believe that it was five year ago, when we
started off with our first Halloween party and what a
party that was. The year 2000-2001 was a busy one. The
Sunday club ran for the months of October, February, and
April with parties, discos, a Christmas quiz, barbeque
and a visit to the pantomime. If you missed any of those
don't worry you can come to the Family Fun day, on July
1st and have yourself and you family and friends a fun
day out. If you didn't get a note about it ask your teacher
or ring Laura at 6680079. See you on the 1st!!!! PUFFIN
