3 singles go into the top ten;

"Sweet Child O'Mine", goes gold in America and goes to number 1, after 6 months. The single has a knock-on effect on album sales and "Appetite" reaches no. 1 and stays there for five weeks.

"Paradise City", goes to no.1

A re-release of "Welcome To The Jungle" goes to no.7.

April.

Guns N'Roses go on tour in support of band idols; Aerosmith.

They also win the 1988 MTV award for "Best New Artist".

August.

Guns N'Roses fly in to the UK to the "Donnington Monsters Of Rock" festival, which is headlined by Iron Maiden.

Tragically during the gig, while the band play "It's So Easy", two teenagers Alan Dick and Landon Peter Siggers,fall to the ground and both are crushed to death.

"Sweet Child O'Mine" is re-released and reaches no. 24.

October.

"Welcome To The Jungle" is re-released and reaches no.24

November.

The band releases the E.P. "Gun N'Roses : Lies". Although it is released as an E.P. it is charted as an album, and is considered an album from then on , except by the band!. This album includes Songs from the first E.P. as well as three new acoustic songs and an acoustic reworking of, "You're Crazy".

The album goes to no. 2 and Guns N'Roses become the first band to have two albums in the top 5.

The single "Patience" goes to no.4 getting Gold status.

Lies is Grammy nominated. The band scoops "Best New Band" in the "Rolling Stone" reader's poll and "Best Heavy Metal Band" and "Best Singer" in the critics poll.
