Mick Hanbury Visits Sligo
Mick Hanbury gave a short but interesting demonstration to
members of the Sligo Chapter. Mick is a world renowned turner who
has demonstrated in many countries.
This was his second visit to Sligo as he was a demonstrator
at our one day seminar 2 years ago. We would like to thank Mick
for visiting us and for a very interesting evening. Below are a
few interesting pictures captured on the day.
Peter Langan Hosts Woodturning training day
Peter Langan's workshop was used to host the regular monthly
young Woodturners meeting. Each Student turned whatever came to
mind.
It was a really enjoyable day and we would like to thank our
mentors John O'Sullivan and John Rynne for giving up their time
and expertise.
Thanks!!
Claire Gurley Visits Sligo
Claire Gurley (Galway Chapter Member) recently visited the Sligo
chapter. She demonstrated the art of Thread chasing. It was a
very interesting and enjoyable night and we all went home
having learned some new skills.
Sligo Woodturning Chapter's One day Seminar
The Sligo chapter recently held a one day seminar for Sligo
chapter members in Danny Mc Geever's workshop. Professional
woodturner Nick Agar came over for the weekend and turned some
beautiful pieces.
On Saturday Nick turned 4 pieces (one of which is shown below).
The workshop commenced at 9am sharp and finished at around 5pm.
Nick showed his skills and produced some excellent and creative
wall mounted pieces.
On Sunday it was more of a hands on experience with many of us
getting a chance to try out some of the new tricks we learned the
previous day.
Below are a few pictures of the weekend.
Sligo Chapter Shop Display
The Sligo Chapter
had a window display in Simones of Sligo during the week
leading up to St. Patrick's Day.
Sligo Woodturning Chapter's Night Out
The Sligo chapter held
its annual night out on Friday the 26th of January in the
Clarion Hotel. Wives, Partners, and family of members of the
Sligo chapter attended the evening.
An enjoyable table quiz organised by Dougie was held during the event, followed by a word game.
There was then a short video about the Sligo Chapter over the
past few years. Throughout the evening a slide-show was running.
It displayed pictures some going back to chapter meetings in
1997.
Dougie also organised another game to keep us going. Each
member that had a wife or partner had to turn an egg-cup. The
wives then had to go up and pick out which one their
husband or partner turned. There was a great variety of egg
cups on display as you can see from the picture and
unfortunately very few wives were able to pick out their husband
skilled handiwork!
We would like to thank Dougie Colvin for organising the event.

the each student. Each Student turned a bowl. A great day was
had by all. Below are some pictures of the event.
