Martin Byrne is an artist, researcher and Bord Failte approved Tour Guide, living and working in the magical Bricklieve Mountains in south County Sligo. He has studied ancient Irish symbolism and mythology for many years and expresses his knowledge of the sacred sites in various media:
Hand coloured paintings of neolithic symbols and Celtic High Crosses, which are produced to life size; recently we have been reproducing these designs in the medium of hand dyed felted wool. Pieces specially made to commission.
- Wooden sculpture, carving and woodblock prints. The prints are available on recycled paper or screenprinted on natural cotton t-shirts, and can be purchased by mail order.
- Spiral medicine wheel mazes - large, geoglyphic land drawings using natural materials - sea weed, stone, clay, hay, shells and bones.
- Guided tours of ancient Irish sites - Martin has been working with and researching ancient sites for many years, and has lived by the Carrowkeel cairns for the last four years. Martin is also available to give talks and lectures, illustrating many of the astronomical features of the ancient sites with slides and diagrams.
