Funders of Sligo Family SupportHealth Service Executive West Sligo Family Support Ltd. is fortunate that the HSE WEST recognises the value and effectiveness of primary prevention i.e. working with families before problems develop. During 2008 the HSE West funded the employment of seven Family Visitors, one full time Coordinator and one part time administrator at Sligo Family Support Ltd. In addition the HSE West provided matching funding to ensure the continuation of the Lifestart Traveller Project. Interagency fund in Relation to the Traveller Community The Lifestart Traveller Project was funded throughout 2007 and 2008 by The Interagency Fund in Relation to the Traveller Community from the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform. This funding continued for the first quarter of 2009 when the project was integrated into the general Lifestart Project. The National Development Plan and the EU under the National Childcare Investment Programme (NCIP) at the Department of Justice Equality and Law Reform: The NCIP grant supports one full time childcare supervisor and six part-time childcare worker posts. Our close links with Sligo County Childcare Committee (supported by NCIP) and our FETAC training programme support our provision of quality, accessible childcare for parents who wish to pursue further education and pursue quality employment opportunities. Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs The Community Services Programme – Acorn Project – provides funding for a Community Services Programme Manager and four staff. This funding is provided specifically for the provision of the after-school and pre-school services. Dormant Accounts Fund In 2009 funding was received from the Dormant Accounts Fund for the employment of two Traveller Pre-school Liaison Workers. The primary aim of this project is to promote the importance of pre-school services for children. A Toy Box Project has been established which sees the workers visit Travellers in their own homes with resources to encourage their readiness for school. FÁS The National Training and Employment Agency Sligo Family Support Ltd. is further enabled to provide quality; accessible childcare through the support of FAS which provides us with three part time childcare workers through the Sligo Social Services Council Limited sponsored Community Employment Scheme. Sligo Vocational Education Committee Under their Community Education Scheme Sligo Vocational Education Committee enables Sligo Family Support Ltd. to access tutors/facilitators for our centre based programme for parents. that families are the primary educators of children. We believe that all families - regardless of how vulnerable - contain within them resources and strengths which can be nurtured.
