Comenius Project Update

Our school has been accepted for a Comenius 1 school project, under the Socrates program (a European Community action programme).

A Comenius school project aims to enhance the European dimension of education by promoting transnational cooperation between schools within the E.U. The project gives pupils and teachers from participating countries an opportunity to work together during regular class activities.

The title of our school project is “Growing the European Garden” and the countries participating are France, Germany, Finland, Poland and Northern Ireland. The project will extend over three years from Sept 2004-June 2007. Over the course of the project we will use the theme of the garden to look at the growing year, foods we grow and eat, weather influences and care of our environment etc. During this three-year period we hope that all children will have an opportunity to get involved.

The links that we establish with our partner countries will help us to better understand and appreciate their language, culture and traditions. We will make maximum use of Information Technology in developing and maintaining these close links.

Three teachers from our school are traveling to a project meeting in Paris at the end of October. There they will sit down with teachers from all our partner countries and map out the course of activities for the coming year.
