Green School

St Joseph's was awarded the Green Flag in March 2004

All classrooms have green, brown and grey bins.

Students have learned how to use the bins.

Students empty class bins into the appropriate city bin.

Bottles are taken by staff and students to a bottle bank.

Senior Students take organic waste from the canteen and cookery class to a compost bin. The compost is used in the school garden.

In 2003 we joined the city council planting initiative.Every year all students have an opportunity to plant bulbs in the school grounds. Last spring we had a beautiful display.

We have participated in National Spring Clean day for a number of years. The school grounds has been zoned for this activity. Each class is responsible for a specific area. This responsibility to keep the area litter free extends throughout the year.

This year 2005- 2006 we will continue the good work and focus on energy/ resources saving initiatives.
