Bats

Bats are mammals that can fly.They are nocturnal because they stay awake at night. Bats look like mice with big wings. Their wings are covered with skin. Bat’s homes are called roosts. They live in groups called colonies. The wild bats live in caves or trees. Bats use special noises to find bugs. The sound bounces off the bugs so the bat can tell where they are. Bats make two kind of noises. One bat squeaks and one bat finds food.

Bears

A bear is a mammal.

A bear has thick pads on the soles of its feet.

A grizzly bear is a type of brown bear.

It can weigh up to 36 kilograms.

It lives in Mexico, in the United States and in Alaska.

A dog is a mammal and is a tame animal. It has hair and a tail. If one of them finds an interesting smell, he follows it with his nose. Puppies feed on their mother’s milk. A puppy loves to jump and sniff and eat.

A dolphin is a large mammal and they live in the ocean. Dolphins swim around in families. They are very clever and they talk to each other with clicking and squeaking noises. It has no legs but it has fins. Their eyes are black. They are blue and have a hundred teeth. Dolphins are small whales. Dolphins are found in the ocean. They breathe air. There are more then 30 types of dolphins. If a dolphin is ill other dolphins will help it to float until it is better. There is a famous dolphin in Co. Kerry called Fungi.

Horses

 

A horse is a mammal. Today there are over 200 breeds of horses and ponies.

Horses have hairy tails and soft coats. They are all different colours and have all different markings. Horses live all over the world. Some of the horses live on farms. They can fight and run fast. Some of them are kept as pets. Horses eat hay and drink water. Horses are measured in hands. A young horse is called a foal. Horses were used to travel from place to place and in wars. Today, horses are used for work and racing.

Kittens

A kitten is a mammal. They are fluffy animals. Kittens fur is all wet when they are born. They stop feeding on their mother’s milk at nine weeks old. The kitten licks its fur to keep clean. Grown-up cats still like to play and explore. Kittens are found all over the world. Kittens live in all types of houses. When a kitten climbs into a tree, it jumps down and will land on its four feet. They like to chase anything that moves.

Lions

A lion is a member of the cat family. It is a mammal and is warm blooded.

The male lion is recognizable because of their huge manes. It has sharp teeth. Lions can mostly be found in Africa. It will go hunting for food like zebra and deer. It protects its babies from predators .

Lionesses usually hunt at dusk or dawn, but they have very good night vision, and so will often hunt in the dark.
