The Computer Room Opening Day

The computer room in St Teresa's NS was opened on the 26th of June, 2000.  We are extremely proud of the facility and here follows extracts from the DES press release for the opening day.

"Dr. Michael Woods, Minister for Education and Science, opened a new state of the art computer room at St Teresa's NS, Balbriggan in north county Dublin(Fingal).  The room was the brainchild of the former principal of the school, Mrs Janet Bryan who died last December.  The school has decided to name the room in her honour.

Speaking to the pupils and parents of the school, Minister Woods praised the school community and local business sponsors who had made the initiative possible.  "My Department and I are very conscious of the importance of computer technology in the lives of young people" the Minister said.  Dr Woods expressed his delight that the parents and pupils of the school, and local businesses and his Department were able to co-operate to make state of the art technology available in the school.

"Your new state of the art computer lab is an excellent example of co-operation in the promotion of young people's learning between the Department of Education and Science; the school community and the local businesses that have generously sponsored this project", said Minister Woods.  "This partnership has been vital to the sucess of the venture and it means, too, that the life of the school and the community which it servers will grow and develop".

Dr Woods stated that it was particularly appropriate that the new room would be named to celebrate the life and work of the school's former principal, Mrs Janet Bryan.

"I know that Janet was held in the highest regard, not only among the pupils, teachers and parents of this school but also in the wider community and in  the educational community generally", said Minister Woods.  He knew that the computer room was yet a further example of her work, for she was determined that St Teresa's pupils would enjoy all the benfits of computer education.  Dr Woods said Janet would have been delighted to see the pupils of the school engage with new forms of learning and technology.  "Having heard about Janet's passion and excitment for schools and learning, I am sure that no more fitting celebration of her life and work could be found than this state of the art computer room", Dr Woods acknowledged."
