About the site

This site is the online portfolio of Stewart Curry, web designer and developer. Here you will find examples of my work, which is primarily web based, with some print and some experimental design work.

Web design and development

My primary areas of interest are in web design and development, which covers a wide variety of fields, including:

Front-end design

This involves the visual style of a website, intranet or extranet. I have worked on a great variety of websites, from primarily brand-driven sites to sites designed to be primarily informative. The design aspect covers all areas, from the initial concept to liaising with clients, selecting and creating imagery, effects and iconography, and coordinating with developers, programmers, project managers and business teams.

Development

I have over five years of professional website development, from cut-up to coding. I have a particular interest in developing sites using semantic markup and cascading style sheets to separate presentation from content. I have also worked alongside programming teams to integrate websites, content management systems, intranets and extranets.

Information Architecture

I have been involved in the planning and development of the information architecture of websites, intranets and extranets. I have also been involved in usability audits of existing systems, which involved user interviews, testing and documentation.

Accessibility

I have a comprehensive knowledge of the WAI guidelines and their implantation in the development of websites that are accessible to users regardless of ability.

Intranets, Extranets & Content Management Systems

I have been involved in the planning and design of a large number of custom-built internal systems that have been used for a variety of purposes, from content, asset & knowledge management to company communications.
