Outreach/Education Programme of the Abbey Theatre

In February 1999, our school was chosen to take part in a Theatre Making Project with the Abbey Theatre.
5th class began drama workshops whick continued until the end of 6th class.
Each week they explored drama, working mainly with Sharon Murphy and Jean O'Dwyer.
They learned how to make puppets and a simple stage set.
They created there own play called "The Magic Sleepover" which they performed in the School Hall.
They also had a chance to see a play in the Abbey and had a tour of the theatre.
At the same time, all the other classes in the school took part in a mini-series of drama workshops.

In 2001, the girls in 6th class were chosen to take part in another wonderful project.
This time the Outreach/Education Team collaborated with The Irish Museum of Modern Art and Macnas Theatre.
In march and Aprl, the girls had workshops in drama, art and music.
They visited the home of Macnas in Galway, IMMA in Kilmainham and the Abbey Theatre.
With the team they made masks and a theatrical spectacle was created in which they used all the skills they had learned.
This was performed as part of "A Celebration of Learning through the Arts" in the National Concert Hall in April 2001.

In 2001/2001 girls in 3rd/4th class took part in a drama and story telling project with author Irma Grothius.
They explored all types of drama and story-making.

They girls thoroughly enjoyed each of the projects.
They learned alot about drama and story making.
They had experiences that they will always remember.
