and is within putting distance from The Belfry.
Glenans Sailing club is located just
2 Km from us. They
offer year round sailing courses.
Westport is the third largest town in Mayo
It is home to many fine Restaurants and coffee
houses (Chinese, Italian, Thai, Seafood, Global,
European and traditional).
As to be expected, Westport
has its fair share
of Pubs where you can hear live music nightly,
Matt Molloy's of "The Chieftains" fame
being one of the most renowned.
Shop till you drop, in the many craft, gift and
clothing shops in town. Many of the products
are hand made locally.
Westport Leisure Centre, just 1 Km
away, houses a public swimming pool and gym. Although if you prefer
swimming in the sea there are several blue flag beaches near by.
Carrowholly stables is
just 1 Km down the road. Fancy a horse trek alone the strand?
Westport House & Estate is walking
distance from The Belfry. Apart from it's
Georgian style house, beautiful grounds there are also lots of attractions
for the kids.
For those interested in walking there are many mountain, coastal and nature
trails, offering something for everybody.
Perhaps the most famous of all is "Croagh Patrick", Irelands "Holy mountain"
which sees 25,000 people climb it on 'Reek Sunday', or take the pilgrim
path through the "Tochar
Valley" right
from it's start at Ballintubber Abbey.
Feel like going further a field? Why not visit Leenane and the Ashleigh
Waterfall, Clare Island, home of the famous sea pirate Grainuale,
or Achill Island with its Dolphins and Basking
Sharks.
