7th April 06 - County Minor League St. Mary's 1-08 Lispole 1-08 in Con Keating Park

St. Mary’s Minors felt sick on Friday evening last when they were robbed of full points deep into injury time after Lispole were awarded a free to level the game. During a very entertaining game Lispole took control of this Minor League encounter early on but when the home side got into the swing of things they controlled the game and went in at the break a point the better. Both sides then stole goals midway through the second half from Man of the Match Vinny Moriarty, St. Mary’s, and Declan Garvey, Lispole, to set an interesting finale, with time running out St. Mary’s were certain of picking up this win, until referee Michael Lyne awarded a free for Declan Garvey to level the game at 1-8 a piece. St. Mary’s will now need to beat Renard in their final game at home in two weeks time to qualify for the semi-finals while Lispole are qualified for the semis after picking up the point this weekend. Best for the home side on the evening were Aidan Walsh, Vinny Moriarty, Michael O’Shea and Colin Walsh, while Gary O’Sullivan, Declan Garvey and Darren Connell at wing back were best for Lispole, under the guidance of Colaiste Na Sceilge teacher John Dorgan. St. Mary’s Team & Scorers: M McGillicuddy, Conor O’Shea, C Cournane, I Casey, A Walsh, Colm O’Shea, V Moriarty (1-0), M O’Shea (0-2), P O’Donoghue (0-3,1f), A Hutchinson, C Walsh (0-1), S Cournane (0-2,1f), C Moran.

31st March 06 - County Minor League St. Mary's 2-03 Skellig Rangers 2-09 in Portmagee

St. Mary’s Minors received an upset on Friday evening when they got off to a very bad start in Portmagee against Skellig Rangers, with the home side racking up 1-5 inside the first 10 minutes thanks to Ger Walsh, Michael B Murphy, Brian O’Sullivan and a goal from Owen O’Connor after a Bernard Walsh free dropped short. Skellig Rangers didn’t stop there and dominated with some excellent points, and John O’Leary and Gary O’Driscoll to extend their advantage before St. Mary’s finally produced a scoring attack 2 minutes into injury time of the first half with a point from Micheal O’Shea after a great Paul O’Donoghue run to leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-1. The Mary’s got a better start in the second half when Sean Cournane pointed but to no avail when an Owen Connor free found the fist of Brian O’Sullivan who directed the ball to the back of the net to extend his side’s advantage to 11 points. First half sub Paul O’Donoghue then stole the show when he added 2-1 to the Mary’s tally in the space of 4 minutes to bring his side within 4 points but this was too late as Owen Connor finished the game with two points to leave the final score St. Mary’s 2-3 Skellig Rangers 2-9. St. Mary’s will need to beat Lispole next Friday evening after losing their first two games while Skellig Rangers play Annascaul with both teams holding a 100 percent record. St. Mary’s Team – S Horgan, C O’Shea, M O’Shea, I Casey, C Cournane, K O’Sullivan (J Moran), V Moriarty, A Walsh, C O’Shea (D Daly), M McGillicuddy, C Quirke (Paul O’Donoghue (2-1)), S Cournane (0-2), C Moran. Subs: D Keating and M Dwyer.
