Templemore
Whenever I say to someone that I come from Templemore, the automatic reply is "Ah! the home of the Garda Siochana". Well that statement is true., but, there is a lot more to this fine town. So I will try to outline it's finer points.

The name Templemore means large temple or church (Teampall Mór in the Irish Language). It was named after the church that is located in the town park thought to have been built in the 14th Century.

Templemore is situated in the central area of Tipperary as we locals call it Mid Tipperary.  The town is nested under the foot of the Devils Bit Mountain (Barnane). It has a population of 2500 (plus).   Templemore was structured or created from an idea of Sir John Craven Carden, as a garrison town. The Military Barracks was built in 1810 for accommodation for 1000 British Forces.

Templemore is now a thriving market town. The most notable thing about Templemore is how wide the Main Street is. Central to the Main St. is the Market House and Town Hall. which was built in 1826 but had to be rebuilt in 1927 after it was destroyed by fire. Templemore has one unique facility, that many of Ireland's larger towns would love to have and that is a 60 acre Park with many amenities. Templemore is often referred to as Carden's Wild Domain, which is a title used on a column edited by Kathleen Collier in the Tipperary Star
