Mr. Tony Maguire started his
Martial Arts career as a school boy when he first learned the Noble
Art of Judo. He then went on to learn Kempo Karate and reached
Yellow Belt. Shortly after he went on to learn some Jujutsu which
included some weapons training. As can be seen none of these quite
hit the spot. He then heard about Taekwon Do and he and his
family started training with the Republic of Ireland Taekwon-Do
Association (R.I.T.A) in 1998 under Mr Patrick Kelly IV, in Rowlagh,
Clondalkin where he attained the grade of 8th Kup. After
moving to Westmeath he and his family were forced to take time out
as there were no Taekwon Do schools in the midlands at the time.
Mr. Maguire was still working in Dublin and was informed of a
Taekwon-Do School in Blakestown. He and his family joined the
A.I.T.A in early 2000 and trained under Mr Derek Colman, IV Degree,
International Instructor. Under the guidance of Mr. Colman,
he trained and was promoted through the grades to I Degree
Black belt.
Mr. Maguire now trains and
assists
Mrs. Maguire, II degree, four nights a week in Mullingar and
Castlepollard, and teaches his own school on Friday nights in
Moyvore, Co. Westmeath where he currently has 15 students. Mr.
Maguire has placed 3rd in patterns and sparring at the 2002 National Championships. He is in training for
his II Degree which he hopes to grade for in the November of 2004.
Mr. Maguire has also been trained in unarmed combat, as he is a
member of the Irish Defence Forces.
