14
Years of Trim Musical Society
It
was a group of people who had been involved in the Trim Musical Society of
the 1940s and 1950s that came together to form the modern Trim Musical
Society, founded in 1986. Since then, this "new" society has
gone on to produce 14 shows of as high a quality as you will see anywhere
in the country. The first show, staged in 1987 was The White Horse Inn and
it had an astonishing 90 people in the cast, all crowded onto the small
stage in the Town Hall. As the expertise and reputation of the young
society grew, it began to receive nominations from the Association of
Irish Musical Societies (AIMS). This reputation was enhanced down through
the years when three of our members - P.V. Dunne, Danny O'Brien and Mary
Brennan -won national AIMS awards. P.V. brought further honour to the
society by being selected to play the lead comic role of Ah Hakim in Gay
Byrne's live radio production of Oklahoma! while Mick Miley won out
against top-class competition in auditions for a supporting role in that
historic broadcast and six members took part in the chorus. Choral singing
has always been one of the society's greatest strengths. This was
officially recognised when our Musical Director, Jane Lynch, received no
less than three AIMS nominations as Best Chorus Master. A particularly
proud boast of the society has been the fact that the show, including all
principals, is always cast from entirely within the membership. |
