Tara Street Station is the busiest suburban station of Dublin. (Photo: Huib Zegers - May 2002)

Tara Street Station is the only station on the so called Loop Line, an in 1891 built line on a viaduct which connects Amiens Street Station -the present Connolly Station- with West Land Row Station, the present Pearse Station. Tara Street Station, which was opened on September 13th, 1907, had never an entrance on the street with the same name. The only entrance is situated on Georges Quay.

Because of its central location Tara Street Station is the busiest suburban station of Dublin. This is the cause of some problems as there are virtually no fysical extension opportunities. Notwithstanding these problems much effort has been put in the expansion of Tara Street Station. Platforms have been extended to facilitate eight carriage trains and the entrance has been altered.
