beaches The Sunny South East is known for it's beautiful sandy beaches, so why not take the kids to St. Helens, Curracloe or Rosslare Strand, just a few of the many beaches Wexford has to offer.
golfing If you're on a golfing holiday, or if you're just in the mood for a game of golf, look no further than St.Helen's Bay Golf Resort, just a short drive away from the house. Your day won't be dull as it is a 27 hole course! There are lessons available from their P.G.A. Professionals. But if it's not a full day of golfing that you fancy, there is an extensive line-up of events during the summer for both adults and kids. And if you're looking for a nice meal after your game, food is served daily from 12.00 until 8.45. A good day guaranteed!
horse riding The Líosín Riding Centre here in Kilrane is a great choice if you're looking for a fun- filled day out for all people of all ages. Lessons are given by their fully qualified professionals. There is a large range of activities available for the experienced rider; show jumping, dressage, beach rides, picnic/pub rides, day treks livery & schooling and swimming with the horses. A great day out for the advanced and beginning rider!
family Just down the road in Tagoat, the Yola Farmstead Folk Park is just waiting to be experienced. You and the kids can drift back in time to discover the delights of 18th century village life in Ireland. Pay a visit to the restored farmhouse and in the 'olde world' surroundings of Granny's Kitchen with its authentic open fire. Stroll along the Flora and Fauna Walks and stop off at the Forge, the thatched Commodore Barry Cottage or the tiny four-pew St.Helen's Church. Watch and listen as the wind drives the sails on one of the country's few working windmills. Call into the schoolhouse, the Kennedy House with its adjoining Aviary or try and understand how parents raised seven children in the lofted two-roomed Kilmore Cottage. Let the children view the rare breeds of poultry and animals or play in the 'Alamo' children's playground. Browse in the Craft Shop Visit the Church and State-approved Genealogy Centre and have them trace your roots.
Or if you want to do something more thrilling, why not experience Harbour Thrills in Rosslare and enjoy a day out of seal watching and passenger boat trips around the beautiful estuary of the Wexford Harbour area. Enjoy the birds and coastal wildlife along this totally uninhabited part of the Irish coastline. So bring your cameras and get snapping!
Or if on-land thrills are what you fancy, then pay a visit to Quad Attack in Enniscorthy. It's fun for all ages on their 80 acre cross country course. Remember: rain or shine you'll have a good time!
places of historical interest Take one of the Walking Tours of Historic Wexford. Enjoy an hour-long stroll through Wexford Town's many historical buildings while gaining an insight into the development of the town This guided walk will uncover early Norman and Celt influences in the town up to the unwelcome arrival of Oliver Cromwell, the 1798 rebellion and including modern day Wexford.
Visit the Johnstown Castle Gardens Irish Agricultural Museum & Famine Exhibition, four miles south of Wexford town. In the Gardens, view the large gothic-revival style mansion incorporating part of a more ancient castle, Rathlanon Castle- the run of a medieval tower house, fifty acres of ornamental grounds with over 200 different kinds of trees and shrubs, walled gardens, hothouses and three ornamental lakes with wildfowl and a picnic area in the old sunken garden between the main car park and castle. In the Irish Agricultural Museum, take a look at the extensive displays on rural transport, farming and the activities of the farmyard and the farmhouse, a nationally important collection of Irish country furniture- over 100 pieces, large-scale replicas of the workshops of the blacksmith, cooper, wheelwright, harness maker and basket maker, farmhouse kitchens from 1800, 1900 and 1950, displays on Ferguson system gardening equipment and the Famine Exhibition.
Or if ancient history is more your thing, visit the National Heritage Park in Ferrycarrig and take a step back to Ireland 9000 years ago, when the Normans, Celts and Vikings landed and settled here.
craft shops Badger Hill Pottery in Enniscorthy offers an extensive range of beautiful pieces of pottery. There is an impressive selection of lamps and comprehensive range of tableware on sale, whether it's a gift for a friend or for your home.
Country Crafts in Kilmore Quay sells a fine variety of Pine furniture, Bric a Brac & Collectables and paintings by local artists.
Creations by Annette Whelan, also in Kilmore Quay, has an extensive range of stained glass, hand painted glass, mosaic and fused glass for sale. So pay her a visit and bring back the perfect souvenir for friends or family.
bars and restaurants The Ferryport Hotel in Rosslare Harbour has a Chinese or seafood menu available if you're looking for a nice meal in the evening.
Culletons pub down the road is a great place to go if you want a meal or just want to have a traditional Irish pint, with live music every Saturday night.
The Kilrane Inn, just next to Culletons also has a nice bar menu, if it's a pub meal you want, with live traditional Irish music on Sunday nights.
