One of the interviews was when we went around to the other students in our class and asked their thoughts on the Leaving Cert Applied. We studied the answers and we picked out the best 5.

The questions we asked were:

Q1.What made you decide to take this course?

A1.(Thomas McGoldrick). It gives a person a chance to do what they are interested in.

A2.(John Scannell). It was different.

A3.(Edmond O Donnell)The projects and the work-experience.

Q2.What do you think of it so far?

A1.(Richard Denihan) I think it was the best thing that came into the school.

A2.(John Piggott) It is very interesting so far.

A3.(Thomas McGoldrick). I think it was a good idea.

Q3. What would you change if anything?

A1.(William Flynn)I wouldn't change the course.

A2.(Edmond O Donnell)More trips and sports.

A3. (Damien O Connell). More time to do the tasks.

Another survey was when we went around to our teachers and asked them,

Q1. Do you think the L.C.A. is a good idea? Give a reason for your answer.

A1. (Mr. Barrett). Yes this is our first experience of an L.C.A. class. Many of the participants would not have continued with the other Leaving Cert course or those courses would not have suited many of these students. L.C.A motivates them and taps their abilities and skills.

A2. (Mr. Cross). Yes-it gives students more choice and a different type of curricular emphasis- studying different types of things and preparing them for life after school.

A3. (M. Curtin). Yes-subject material is very practical and should be very useful to student in their everyday living.

Q2. How do you think the L.C.A. students are doing?

A1. (M. Curtin). I think they worked more enthusiastically in the first term. Reports from work-experience are very encouraging . A little bit of home work is necessary

A2. (Mr. Barrett). Very well . Much more highly motivated. They work very well and their attendance is excellent. Feedback from their teachers, work experience employers and themselves is very good.

A3. (Mr Cross). All the students in the present 4a1 group are performing well and to their potential. Sometimes I feel that they get a bit bored but generally they are a great group of young people.

Q3. Do you think the other schools in Ireland should introduce this course?

A1. (M Cregan). Yes I think it would be a good idea as it facilitates a certain amount of students.

A2. (S Kennedy). Over 300 of the 750 approx. second level school in Ireland have introduce the L.C.A. Every school in the country will most likely introduce this in time.

A3. (Mr Cross). Yes. It breathes new life into a group and gives people an opportunity to keep going to fulfil a full Leaving Certificate qualification.
