A Walk. Commence at area leading into

Mahon Falls Grid ref 318080

                        Explore the Falls

                        Up river bed to Knockaunapeebra (726)

                        Across to peak 792 and 743 in the Comeragh Plateau.

                        Cairn at Crottys rock

                        Back on Plateau to Carrignagower (767) and the Gap

Coumduala Lough (630)

Knocanaffrin (755)

Knockshegowna (678)

Shauneenabreaga (602)

Harney’s Cross Rd – pick up.

                        Explore the falls

                        Commeraghmountain (668)

                        Knockaunapeebra (774)

                        Carraghduff (730)

                        Across Plateau to 751 and 743  heights

                        Crottys Rock Cairn (740)

                        Carrignagower (767)

                        The Gap           

                        North East to exit  on path towards Lackan Br

Pick up point.

C Walk              Commence at area leading into Mahon Falls Grid ref 318080

                        Explore the Falls

                        Return to view point (414)

Ascend the ridge to Commeragh mountain (668)

Knockaunapeebra (744)

Carraghduff (730)

Around Plateau to Fauscoum (792) and Coumshingaun Lough

Descend ridge to Mahon Falls view point for pick up

                        Distance Approx: 10km

A Walk              Commence at Nire Valley Layby Grid Ref 276128

                        Across Nire river to Lyre

                        Lyremountain Ridge to Coumfea peak (711)

                        Along ridge to peaks 717, 744 to Carraghduff (730)

                        Through the Plateau to Carrignagower

The Gap and follow path to Nire Valley Layby

Alternatively this may vary to transverse down into the corrie lakes.

Distance Approx 16km

 

B Walk              Commence at Nire Valley Layby Grid 276128

                        Follow path to the Gap (466)

                        SSE to Carrignagower (767)

                        Through Plateau to peaks 751 and 730

                        Descend ridge to approx 550m height onto track

                        Contour round to Coumaloucha

                        Follow under cliffs to Lough Coumfea

                        Continue NNW off the ridge to Lyre

                        Return to Nire Valley Layby

                        Distance Approx 13km

 

C Walk              Commence at Nire Valley Layby Grid Ref 276128

Down to the river Nire

Follow its major tributary up to Spilloge Loughs

Explore and contour round to Coumalocha

Explore the multitude of corrie lakes

Continue along foot of cliffs to Lough Coumfea

Head NNW down Lyremountain ridge back to layby.

Distance Approx 11 km.

 

The above routes will be checked out prior to our weekend by some of the club leaders. Final routes for each of the walks may be changed in agreement with respective leaders for each group. 

They may also be changed depending on weather conditions.

Our group of 60 walkers includes 17 of our club leaders who will be spread through each group.
