October 2010 Weekend: Please Note: Our Halloween weekend away in the Comeraghs is just over 2 weeks away – Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th October.

Our hotel is the Clonmel Park Leisure and Spa Hotel. Their Web site is www.clonmelparkhotel.com – have a look.

Our group size will be 60 and we will be organising 3 walks each of the two days – A,B, and C to facilitate everybody.

Bus transport will be arranged for the Saturday to get us to the start of the walks and pick up again on finish.

Sunday we will be using our own transport.

As we are all making our own way to and from Clonmel for the weekend, it may be an idea to arrange sharing of transport with others on the trip, whilst out this weekend.

A couple of club leaders will be doing a reccie on the Comeraghs this week and we will send out a further email next week confirming times of walks / pick up times / meals etc

For a brief summary of the proposed walks Click Here.

Also please note: If, for any reason, you are unable to go on this, please let Mick O’Driscoll or Des McConville as soon as possible. There may be other people who may want to go on this fantastic trip. To remind you of the offer click here.

A New feature in the Wee Binnians- The new Hi Viz Leaders Pennant: At our Annual Festival on the weekend of the 10th/12th Sept 2010 we introduced a new HI-VIZ Pennant to be worn by each Walking Group Leader.
The Pennants were a great success as they identified who the Leaders were in each walking group and it was a great sense of security to the walkers who were not familiar with the leaders. The Pennants have been distributed to a large number of Leaders at the Festival, but any leader who has not yet received one can obtain one from Thomas McKenna.

http://homepage.eircom.net/~weebinnians/images/DSCN0387s.jpghttp://homepage.eircom.net/~weebinnians/images/DSCN0392s.jpg

We would ask each leader to attach the Pennant to their rucksack every time they are LEADING a club walk from now onwards. The Pennant duplicates as a weatherproof bag and can be used to collect litter found on the walks. The blue coloured litter bag recently distributed to club members should also be used, if you do not want to use the litter bag please pass it on to another club member. So please remember -  LITTER ! " DON'T KICK IT-----PICK IT " –Mick O’Driscoll.

The Picture above: The Hi-Viz being display by two of our leaders, Eoghan Bailey and Anita MacNabb. Of Course, a big thanks to Outdoor Xchange for providing the club with these safety Hi Viz

Other News:

Congratulation on their engagements: We have two couples to congratulate. The first couple are both members of the Wee Binnians and actually met in the club. They are Deirdre McCrory and Gerry Maguire, both from Belfast. They text a few members at lunch time on the last Sunday’s with the great news.

The second couple are Mary Harte whose is a longtime member of the club, is originally from Camalough but now living in Belfast and Donal Sharp from Waterfoot, near Cushendall. They are getting married in November 2010.

So, that is great news. I am sure all the members in the club would like to wish both couples every happiness and all the best in the future

Access closure in the Blue Stacks: For your information. Mountaineering Ireland (MI) has been advised that the owners of a large commonage near Edergole, north of Lough Eske in Co. Donegal have closed their land to recreational users. As a result there is currently no access from Edergole to the nearby waterfall, to Lough Belshade, or the area west north west of the Corabber river across to the white outcrop west of 626m.

Mountaineering Ireland is supporting local efforts to resolve the issue, in the meantime the Blue Stack Way remains open, as do the western and eastern parts of the Blue Stack range, including the high point at 674m.
