Make
a WEBPAGE
How
to make a WEBPAGE for the school WEBSITE, and UPLOAD it.
-
Start
FRONTPAGE, and start typing.
-
SAVE
it in the SCHOOL FOLDER
(MY DOCUMENTS / MY WEBS). Give it a unique name. If you have
to move to another computer, save it on a floppy disk and REMEMBER
the name accurately. Write it on the back of this page.
-
Connect
to the INTERNET. You must do this only when a teacher is with you.
-
Open
the FTP programme. Find the file you want to UPLOAD. If you cannot
find it, click the REFRESH button. Double-click on the file to
UPLOAD it. You must do this only when a teacher is with you. Advanced:
If you include a picture in your file, you must upload the picture
as well.
-
Some
of our computers are not connected to the INTERNET, so you will have
to put the information on a floppy, and bring it to another
computer. Ask for a teacher’s advice.
-
When
the file is uploaded, you must make a LINK to it from one of
the SCHOOL WEBSITE PAGES. To do this, open the SCHOOL WEBSITE on the
INTERNET. (If you can’t find it, look in FAVOURITES)
-
Decide
which page you want to put the link on. A teacher will advise you if
necessary.
-
Edit
the page (FILE / EDIT WITH MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE)
-
Type
the LINK text. Make a HYPERLINK to the file you made. (INSERT /
HYPERLINK)
-
Save
the file in the SCHOOL folder. Remember the name. Write it on the
back of this page.
-
Swap
over to FTP again, find the page you used to make the link, and
UPLOAD it by double-clicking it. A teacher must be with you to
supervise this.
-
CHECK
the SCHOOL WEBSITE to make sure it is working. If it does not work,
ask a teacher for help. Later, you can check it on a home computer,
if you wish, with permission from your parents.
-
When
you get used to doing all these steps, you will notice there are
many other ways to do it. Stick to this method for the present.
-
Keep
thinking up
NEW IDEAS for our SCHOOL WEBSITE. If you come up with something
original, ask a teacher’s permission to go ahead with it.
